About Vikraman – The Author

Vikraman (real name Subarayar Vembu) was a celebrated Tamil novelist and writer born on March 19, 1928, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He passed away on December 1, 2015. Vikraman was a prolific writer known for his historical and social novels, and he greatly contributed to Tamil literature over several decades.

He initially wrote under the pen name “Vembu” before adopting the pseudonym “Vikraman.”
Vikraman served as the editor of the longest-running Tamil literary monthly magazine, Amudasurabhi, for over 50 years (from 1949 to 2002).
He was deeply influenced by Kalki Krishnamurthy and is often hailed as a successor in the tradition of historical novel writing.
Vikraman was the president of the All India Tamil Writers Association.
He wrote extensively across genres including novels, short stories, children’s literature, dramas, and essays.
Vikraman was honored by the Tamil Nadu government with the Kalaimamani award and other literary recognitions for his contributions to Tamil literature.
