Story Summary – மயங்குகிறாள் ஒரு மாது
Mayangugiral Oru Maadhu is one of Ramanichandran’s most iconic and widely read Tamil romance novels. The story revolves around Sudhakaran’s fierce and intense love, while Maya is a vibrant, tender, and spirited young woman with a happy family upbringing.
Maya is a pretty, bubbly girl from a middle-class family. Her childhood friend Raghu is her crush. One day, Maya spots Sudhakar with a call girl and forms a very bad impression of him. When Sudhakar later comes to Raghu’s house and rescues Maya from an accident, an irritated Maya slaps him and insults him deeply.
Feeling deeply humiliated, Sudhakar kidnaps Maya and takes her to his remote bungalow in Karnataka. He also creates a drama to make people believe Maya eloped with a North Indian man.
Set against the backdrop of contemporary Chennai, the story is intertwined with love, mystery, and the intricacies of human emotions. A complex web of relationships — from the tender bonds of friendship to the turbulent throes of desire — is brought to life by Ramanichandran’s skillful narrative.
The characterisation is vivid, the contrast between the two lead characters is shown very well, and the narration is so deeply engaging that you feel sad or smiling along with the heroine. Like all Ramanichandran novels, it ends with a happy ending that makes you believe in happily ever after.
