Vasanthi was born on 26 July 1941 best Indian writer’s nickname was Pankajam. She wrote as Vasanthi Novels. She got a Master’s degree at Oslo University in Norway and worked for nine years Tamil writer in India Today

One of the famous Penguin Books published a book in English. J. Jayalalithaa chief minister of Tamil Nadu, wrote her. She has written more than 40 novels and 6 Short stories.

Vaasanthi, born as Pankajam on July 26, 1941, is a celebrated Tamil author, journalist, and columnist known for her outstanding contribution to Indian literature. She holds degrees in English Literature and History from Mysore University and a postgraduate degree from Oslo University, Norway.

Early Life and Career

Vaasanthi started her writing journey in college, with her first story published in Ananda Vikatan magazine and awarded “Best Short Story of the Year”.

She went on to become the editor of India Today (Tamil edition) for about nine years, shaping Tamil journalism with her sharp political and cultural analysis. Her works span over forty years.

Literary Contributions

She has published roughly 30 novels, 6 short story collections, 4 volumes of journalistic essays, and numerous travelogues and biographies in both Tamil and English.

Her writing style is marked by clarity, strong social and feminist themes, and an ability to bring the ordinary struggles of everyday people to life. Vaasanthi’s works such as “Aakasa Veedugal,” “Ammani,” “Naan Budhan Illai,” and “Janannam” are beautifully crafted and widely read.
